PROJETO MARTIN (deutsch)
Um einen ganz persönlichen Beitrag für die Bekämpfung der weltweiten Armut beizutragen, habe ich das PROJETO MARTIN ins Leben gerufen. Kinder, die Musik aktiv ausüben, sind statistisch gesehen weniger agressiv und gewaltbereit.
In Natal (RN), einer Millionenstadt im Nordosten Brasiliens, in der ich als Gastprofessor seit Jahrzehnten aktiv bin, wird sechs Kindern (Alter zwischen 10 und 18 Jahren) aus armen Verhältnissen ermöglicht, ein Instrument (Violine,Viola oder Violoncello) zu lernen. Sie bekommen wöchtenlich eine Einzelstunde und einen Gruppenunterricht bei erfahrenen Lehrern. Den Unterricht und die Instumente stelle ich zur Verfügung und greife finanziell auch den Familien unter die Arme, dass sie ihre Kinder beim Erlernen des Intruments unterstützen. Das Projekt ist langfristig angelegt und für jedes Kind, das ausscheidet (im Regelfall nach fünf Jahren), rückt ein neues nach.
In Natal betreuen meine befreundeten Professoren Durval Cesetti und Claudia Roberta Cunha das Projekt und halten regelmäßig zu mir Kontakt, um über die Erfolge und vielleicht auch Schwierigkeiten zu berichten.

As estatísticas mostram que as crianças que praticam ativamente a música são menos agressivas e violentas. Para dar uma contribuição muito pessoal à luta contra a pobreza global, criei o PROJETO MARTIN.
Natal (RN) é uma cidade de 880,000mil habitantes, no nordeste do Brasil, onde tenho atuado como professor visitante por décadas. Lá, foram contempladas seis crianças (de 10 a 18 anos), de famílias que estão na faixa de baixa renda, para que possam estudar um instrumento de cordas (violino, viola ou violoncelo). Elas receberão lições semanais de uma hora e aulas em grupo com professores experientes. O projeto Martin oferece as aulas e os instrumentos e ajuda financeiramente às famílias para ajudar seus filhos a aprenderem o instrumento. O projeto foi planejado para ser implantado a longo prazo e será renovado para cada criança que sair da escola (geralmente após cinco anos).
Em Natal, meus amigos professores Durval Cesetti e Claudia Roberta Cunha supervisionam o projeto e mantêm contato regular comigo para relatar os sucessos e, talvez, as dificuldades.
PROJETO MARTIN (english)
In order to make a very personal contribution to the fight against global poverty, I have created the PROJETO MARTIN. Children who actively practice music are statistically less aggressive and violent.
In Natal (RN), a city of millions in northeastern Brazil, where I have been active as a visiting professor for decades, six children (ages 10 to 18) from poor backgrounds are given the opportunity to study an string instrument (violin, viola or violoncello). The students receive weekly one-hour private lessons and group lessons from experienced teachers. I provide lessons, instruments and financial help to the families in order to support their children in their musical study. The project is designed with long term goals, and new recipients are chosen approximately every five years, after the current students graduate from the school.
In Natal, my friends and colleagues Professors Durval Cesetti and Claudia Roberta Cunha supervise the project. They keep in regular contact with me, reporting on the successes and any difficulties.
